    Default Oh Boy !

Another weather front approaches with the potential to lay up to two feet of new snow on the pass!

    * ANOTHER ROUND OF POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS WINTER WEATHER WILL
ARRIVE IN THE SIERRA THIS EVENING AND IT WILL PERSIST INTO
    WEDNESDAY.

    * SNOW ACCUMULATIONS: UP TO TWO FEET OR MORE OF SNOW IS
POSSIBLE ABOVE 8000 FEET...10 TO 18 INCHES ABOVE 6000 FEET.

    * TIMING: SNOW WILL BEGIN THIS EVENING...THEN CONTINUE HEAVY AT
    TIMES WELL INTO WEDNESDAY.

That's why we only travel for fun and stop when things get bad! ;)

    Hello all,

Good to be back searching again for when that back country opens up again. Last year we had a blast on our fishing trip (here some pictures: Fishing Trip 2010).

This year, I'm going to guess June 11th at 8:00am.

    Here's hoping!

    Default Slow going.

Hey Brian, welcome back. Great photo's !

The crews are making slow progress at the moment and the weather is not helping !

A rough guide to where they are at present.

Brian, nice to see you've tossed your hat back into the ring -- Maybe you'll be our first-ever Repeat winner of the TPP! Here's Brian filling up his tank on RTA's dime!

Given the conditions I just extended the time of the poll being open from June 25th to July 25th...

    Default Plowing on !

With settled weather meaning the road crews can concentrate on Tioga pass and not clearing other parts of the park, plus the Spring thaw makes for good progress at the moment.

They still have to combat snow depths of up to 15ft though ! The Mammoth mountain crews to the East are now only 3.8 miles from Tioga pass.

Glacier point is reportedly plowed, but additional work has to be carried out before opening.

NPS plow map and report here.

The Sentinel dome Webcam is back.

What a contrast to a few weeks ago ! [check out page 3 and 4 of this thread]

Default Glacier point road open !

And the crews look to be making a massive effort in their quest to get Tioga pass open. Crews coming from the West are now working east of Olmsted Point, while coming from the East they are past Tuolumne meadows.

Info and map of plow positions.

Glacier Point Road opened on Friday May 27th at noon and closed on Sat, remained closed Sunday and reopened after Monday morning when the sun came out. Rain, hail and snow mid-day in the valley -- much more at higher elevations.
