  1. Default America's Elbow - Oklahoma to LA to Seattle

Late march I am driving my Honda Prelude from Lawton, OK to Seattle, WA and I need to stop in SoCal. I just moved off of an island in Alaska so this is my first road trip driving myself. I will have a co-pilot but i would love some advice from all the road trip veterans out there: things to see, places to go, best routes. We are going to give ourselves one week and it will be filmed. So, basically I need your help to see all the cheap/free things in the southwest that you would wanna see/do if you were a teenager on a road trip making a movie.

    Default Welcome!

Welcome to the RoadTrip America Forum!

What kinds of things are you interested in? It may be one thing to film what others are interested in, but you might not enjoy spending your time looking for relics of Googie architecture or old junkyards, even if those things might be cheap or free.

I dont really even know whats out there! The only goal i really have is to see the Grand Canyon, but i feel like theres a lot more to take advantage of on this 2,000+ mile drive. I guess I just need help brainstorming some ideas, from the boring stuff to the most risque things.

    Default narrowing

The reality is over the course of a 2000 mile trip, the things you could see and do are in the millions. There's just no way we can realitistically narrow down all of the possibilities until you've got a better idea of what it is you are after.

That means you need to take the first step. There are lots of resources on this site, including the map center and many other articles, that can help you narrow in on some ideas.

Once you have a better idea of your trip, then we can help you put everything together.

I have my route planned. I'm trying to make a checklist of exciting things to film like jumping off a cliff into water and racing a random on the highway. I want to show people the fun side of road tripping/travelling and I want to show my kids in 30 years how crazy their father once was. I guess the things I want to do are things that I'm only going to be able to do while im in my prime, so i ask the road trip veterans out there to tell me things they wish they would've done.

Hmmm... there's a lot of things I wish I would have done - that I still plan to do. Granted I'm not anywhere close to retirement. And knowing kids and the way things change over the years, they might not think you were all that crazy. Anyway, roadtrips have a way of making any potential checklists of this sort irrelevant. My suggestion is to go with your gut and see to what and where the road leads you.
