Safe travels and enjoy your trip. I happen to like Alabama a great deal. I've met lots of folks there who are quite different from me, my family, and my friends and neighbors, but isn't that one of the great things about interstate travel?

Ok, I think I will just encourage my wife to not concern herself with her previous experiences.

As far as my experiences, I only know that I don't much like traveling through major cities because of the traffic, which is the main reason I want to avoid Atlanta. Other then that I've never experienced a problem with people.

Unfortunutly sometimes I have to plan around my wife's anxiety. She has General Anxiety Disorder. The slightest potential of danger or uncomfortable situations bother her greatly and she sometimes has panic attacks. Monday night the weather channel reported a possibility of tornados and she stayed up all night to watch for one.

Thanks for the positive report on Alabama, it may help calm her down about it all.

Default I'm with you on the big cities........

........which is why I work hard to avoid them when I can. I can be quite impatient in heavy traffic. My daily commute is 1.6 miles with no stoplights, and has been so for the last 11 years, so I've lost my "edge" when it comes to dealing with traffic.

Sorry to know of your wife's difficulties. I can imagine every sort of event presents challenges with that condition.

    Best of luck to you.

Thanks, in terms of traveling it usually applies in one of two ways. The first is that she can't drive someplace where she doesn't know whats ahead. Even exits to stop for gas are difficult for her. However straight shots on Interstates and stopping at rest stops she's good with. This route increases the amount of time she can be behind the wheel. (Therefore decreasing the amount I have to drive by default.)

Of course all of this is assuming the weather gets better as we get into the south. If its snowing, then I'll be driving. Not just because of her anxiety, but also because she grew up in the South and snow to her was never anything more then a fun thing to play in. She's never driven in it. We've only been married 7 months now so, she hasn't had the time to learn.

The second way is less importat but still annoying. A lot of times I like to know when the next rest stop is or something like that and the only good way to find that out is a good old fashioned Atlas. Unfortunutly she has difficulty with these. She claims to be able to read them, but the problem is that apparently she has difficulty focusing in on one thing when there are a lot of other things on the page.

Not sure why the second part is and if it has anything to do with her Anxiety. I do know she's very smart, she got straight A's in college and graduated Summa Cum Laude which is a lot better then I did.

Just speak with a southern accent and they will think your one of them. All kidding aside though I found the people of Alabama charming. Sorry your brother had a bad experience. There can be unfriendly people everywhere.

Hi lisanne, and Welcome to the Great American roadtrip Forum.

Thank you for jumping in with your suggestion, as your first post. But as you may have realised this is an old thread and the trip has long since taken place. Still others may adopt your suggestion.

Feel free to jump in whenever you feel you can make a contribution..... or to start your own thread if you are wanting advice for a roadtrip.
