Default Changes in the National Parks Pass

The price on the national parks pass went up sharply several years ago along with a name change from the National Parks Pass to the America the Beautiful Pass. But that was in 2006-2007, so I'm a bit surprised anyone's info would be that out of date. Another thing that changed was the time frame of the pass. It used to be one year from date of first use. Now it is one year from date of purchase. Since there is no discount or other incentive to buy the pass on-line, you're better off just buying it at the first park you come to.

Even before the price increase a few years ago, the pass still cost $50. A few individual parks charge $40 for a year pass for that specific park only, so perhaps that's what they are talking about. Otherwise their information would have to be well over a decade out of date.

Of course, the pass only covers admission fees - not camping, tours or any other extras.
