Default Did I miss the declaration of victory?

Or is Mark only assuming I got it?

Truth be told, Google does a world of good on things like this one. That, and knowing chert is often called flint, and that the Flint Hills have much in the way of novaculite, a grainy form of chert. That, plus knowing pfemm resides in or near Oklahoma. So, chert + byway + Oklahoma brought me close, and chert + byway brought me Flint Hills, and a link to a state by state scenic byways website brought me to a road map, where I determined it's NOT a loop but does intersect I-35.

Now watch me be wrong on this SWAG after all.

    Default Foy's Victory Declaration ;)

Yep... Flint Hills it is. They stretch North and South through central Kansas and a bit o' Oklahoma. Though in Oklahoma I think they're called the Osage Hills.

We didn't get to drive the byway though. we missed the north entrance but went ahead to the south entrance (exit 92 {Cassoday, KS} on I-35) so now at least we know where it is for next time...

And we did get to travel some nice back roads from Cassoday to El Dorado. Cassoday actually has a working Phonebooth. haven't seen one of those in years!

Default Somewhere in this great land

I recently took a trip to... well, here's a hint through a couple of pictures of one of the places that I stopped:

The barrels make me think of spirits or wine. I am on the right lines?

    Default That shutter cutout...

... is vaguely reminiscent of a Maker's Mark bottle outline.

With the very helpful hints soon came to Markers Mark Distillery, Loretto, Kentucky.

With words like train, track and lines wondered if there was some railway connection. I see it is called whiskey with an e which is the Irish spelling. Whisky, without the e, is Scottish.

Just seen some glorious pictures of the distillery – looks to be a wonderful place to visit.

That was the intention of the designer, the founder's wife.

That's what it is. If you have a chance I'd recommend stopping by for a visit. The grounds are set up in a park-like fashion. The tour is free and there's even a tasting at the end. Even if you're not a bourbon fan, it's still an interesting tour. For instance, I learned that the waste mash goes to Land O' Lakes to make butter.

In the first picture, there is a scale, and one of the words on the scale is "mark."

    Default Maker's Mark

Here are some more photos from Maker's Mark that Ray Pearson took and here's his field report.

Tim, where else did you go?

I'm going to do a field report shortly (I've been slacking on those lately.) Meanwhile, I've got a few more pics to put in here.

Here's a couple more photos - not my best compositions,

    1. Where is this?
    2. What road am I taking these pictures from?
