South Carolina to any points West ASAP

I'm planning on leaving this Saturday and going west to somewhere. I have 10 days. Any ideas on routes? I love scenic places. I want to take pictures of America.

And I'm not opposed to find others heading in any general direction. Split driving and costs.

Five days out and back from Columbia means that you can get to everything east of the Cascades with ease. In other words, pretty much any where in the contiguous 48 states. There's simply no way that anyone can offer you any meaningful advice with the only criteria being vague desires such as "tak[ing] pictures of America". This web site is chock full of thousands of ideas for things to see and do within your stated range, It's up to you to pick a destination.

I have no destination. Only a time limit. I've lived my entire life on the east coast and have taken landscape portraits all over this part of the country. I'm ready to look for things out west. Rolling hills, rusting factories, the beautiful and strange of America. Color or drab. I just want an adventure.

In this case, you can do one or both of 2 things.

1. Go to the bookstore and buy a US Road Atlas. Open it up and just look for interesting things.

2. Point your car west, and just see where the road takes you. After 5 days, turn around and head home.
