Welcome to the RTA Forum!
There certainly are plenty of possibilities. If you look around the forum you'll find hundreds of threads about trips based out of San Francisco.
A few of the more popular options would include checking out Yosemite and Sequoia National Parks. You could head to Vegas, and swing through Death Valley. You could also check out Napa and Wine Country, or go across to Lake Tahoe. You could also go north along the coast this time and head towards Redwoods National Park. Even those ideas are just the tip of the iceburg...
If you are a fan of wine I would definitely visit Napa Valley. There are quite a few beautiful vineyards there and you can also go to see Yosemite national park. Oh and I wouldn't forget to fully appreciate San Francisco while your here, we have lots of really neat examples of southwest American culture here.
Go north on the US101 over the Golden Gate Bridge up to see the Redwoods.
Or, go east to see Yosemite and/or Sequoia Nat'l Parks.

I live in the SF Bay Area and it has been colder than average here for the last week or so (the low will probably approach freezing tonight) and the forecast is just a little better for next week. I strongly suggest you change your car rental to something better suited for colder weather.
It will still be a beautiful trip, and I agree with the previous posters about places to visit. If you're going anywhere in the hills or mountains, make sure your car rental has snow chains and that you're comfortable with putting them on and taking them off.
Good hiking,
