  1. Default Kansas City to Anaheim, CA for Disney!

My husband and two young sons and I will be traveling from Kansas City to Disneyland this summer! I was hoping to get some advice and tips on what route to take. We would welcome any advice on places to stop aong the way!

    Default Time ?

Hello and welcome to the RTA forums !

You don't say how much time you have for the journey ? It's going to be a minimum of 3 days each way and then you can think about sight seeing. If you have the time I would look to I70 one way and perhaps stop at a National park or 2 through Colorado and Southern Utah and then I40 the other way with the Grand canyon being on most 'to do' lists.

Thanks! We honestly haven't decided how much time we were going to take driving, but we knew it would be at least three days. Hopefully no more then four.

With 3 days you would need to divide your trip into equal overnight stops and just take short rest breaks from the car, that's all you would have time for at around 550 miles and 10 hours travel per day. With an extra day you would have time to do a few short stops, or as mentioned, spend a day at the Grand canyon one way and perhaps Arches or Zion NP the other.

All of the previous responses are right on. My husband and I regularly make trips between southern California and (central) Missouri (we usually go two hours east of KC). It's three very long days on the road, and if you want to see something, you'll need an extra day or two. You'll need 4.5 days from KC to Anaheim if Arches is something you want to see -- it will take almost 2 full days to drive to Arches, then a day to see Arches, and then it's 1.5 days to drive to Anaheim.

On the way back, if Grand Canyon is on your bucket list, it's a full day's drive from Anaheim to Grand Canyon. A full day to see the Canyon (to do it right). Then it will be 3 days to KC, mostly driving. So there's 5 days.

You definitely should have a full 2-weeks for this trip.

Let us know what interests you and your family.

Do you enjoy national parks? Kitschy tourist traps (e.g. world's largest this or that)? Historical spots? Route 66?
