  1. Default Vancouver to North Carolina

    Hi everybody!
I hope i can get some help and ideas for my roadtrip.
I am planning to go to yellowstone first (north-east entrance) and after that i am trying to find the best route to north Carolina.
Since its a bit late in the year i am wondering about weather conditions, im driving a mustang so that is not really for heavy snow etc.
I am planning on leaving Vancouver mid october at the latest.
I want to see as much nature and wildlife as possible and as few big cities as possible.
I have lots of time so thats not a factor.

    I hope you can help!
    Thanks!

    Welcome to the RTA Forum!

I can tell you that you will have a problem with Yellowstone. The Beartooth Highway (ie the Northeast Entrance) closes on October 8th this year, so that will not be an option. Other roads within the park will also be closed by mid-October, and nearly all of the park roads close for the season by the first week of November. If you do go in mid-October, you should expect to see some snow and know that most of the parks services and lodging will already be closed.

Beyond that, there's not a lot of specific help we can give at this point. With unlimited time and most of the continent available between your starting and ending points, there's simply no way for us to identify the "best route" for you. There is no shortage of nature, wildlife, and open spaces all over this country, but you've got to figure out what it is you want to see.

Once you've got more of an idea about what your personal "must see" sites are, then we can help you put things together, and offer some suggestions that would also fit into your plan. But you've really got to take that first step.

  3. Default Washington to California

    Hi!
I am going from Washington and will slowly make my way down to L.A.
I will be going through Idaho and i am looking for ideas to what there is to see through that state in regards to national parks.

I would like to see the following places, and I am looking for the best route to see them on my way to L.A, California.
Zion, Bryce, Grand Canyon, Painted desert, Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument, Capitol Reef National Park, Death Valley,
I am planning on sleeping in my car on campgrounds, hostels or couch surfing to keep the cost of living at a minimum.

I hope you can help me out with the best route.
I was thinking of around 2-3 weeks to cover this but since I have a lot of time on my hands, I am open to suggestions!

    Thanks!!

Default How do you have time to do both trips?

Is this a different trip from the one you posted on the 1st? Or are you taking both trips?

Also, would this be a one way trip or a round trip, and when would it take place?

Since you've posted this in the Fall/Winter section, you should be warned that it will likely be very cold overnight and you'd need some serious 4 season camping gear if you're planning to sleep in your car, or in a tent.

Idaho has several national parks, with Craters of the Moon probably being the most famous one near your route.

The logical order to visit would be Capitol Reef, Bryce, Zion, Grand Canyon, Painted Desert (which will require some backtracking), and Death Valley. Grand Staircase could be before Bryce or after Zion, depending upon which parts of the huge park you want to focus on.

This is the same trip but with a stop in California. After this I am going east.
