Lol! I thought it was too good to be true! I forgot to double the cost of the flights as there are 2 of us!
The speadsheet is correct now!
Other than a bit of 'pocket money' for spending and entry fees to the National parks and things you might want to do like Alcatraz in SF or a show in LV you look in pretty good shape. Not sure if you found some place in particular in, or near to Yosemite for $60 a night but that sounds pretty cheap unless you're planning on staying in Oakhurst or similar.
Thanks Dave,
We were looking at something like Camp Curry for a couple of nights. Got the idea off this forum as it happens. Around 50 dollars a night for a heated tent.
We will definatley want to be doing stuff like Alcatraz, show in Vegas etc. Maybe disney in LA for a day.
Do you think $300 dollars each will be enough for pocket money like stuff or closer to $500?
Thanks
Budgets are as difficult to answer as 'what's the best route' question, because the circumstance and answer is different for each individual trip. You don't have to carry all cash and no one knows your finances better than you, so Yes $300 each as 'pocket money' should work out fine, unless of course you go and blow a $150 each on one show.
If you are planning on visiting Alcatraz you can buy tickets while there or you can book in advance on line and this is the official nps ticket office and the only place you can buy them without getting tied into doing other tours. I think it's around $50, or close to $65 for a night tour and then you have $40 to $50 for entry to both Grand canyon and Yosemite, for both of you. Of course unexpected treats on holiday can add up but if for instance you had $500/ $600 between you and started running a little short you can always put the odd meal or a show on the 'plastic'. [Only a good idea if you can clear the debt when you arrive home though]. We never have a bottomless pit of money when we travel but we try and make it so that we don't feel we have missed out. To do that, we do all the cutting back on bit's before we go and save what we can, often buying some dollars here and there when the exchange rate looks good.
Don't go broke over it, and you don't always have to spend money to have a good time, so go with what you want within your affordability. Who knows, you might not spend as much as you thought you would !
I have heard that Camp curry is pretty cool and it is the most affordable lodging in the park and in a good central location, I have also heard that ear plugs is a good idea incase your neighbour is a snorer. Lol
