Circle Tour of Lake Michigan

Hello all,
I'm brand new to this forum and we are looking to spend around 7 days driving around Lake Michigan during the 2nd week in Oct., starting and ending in Chicago. Can anyone help with info as to where is some good places to see / stay? Like to visit wineries, sight see, light hiking, the usual fall itinerary. Not looking to rush through the drive. Any tips would be appreciated.
