  1. Default Vegas loop - help please!

Hi, we are planning a 6 day road trip from and to Vegas early August, but the route keeps changing and we're not sure where to add/delete a night. So far we are at 1 night in Springdale(Zion n.p), over to Page (1 night), from Page to Grand Canyon south rim.... and then our problem now comes into play.

Because of holiday dates, we will end up at the canyon on a Friday, so thought it would be best to head out for the night after seeing it. We were going to stay in Cameron, but then found out they don't serve beer there (we think not, especially after a day on the road!).

We also want 2 days in Sedona, and know we could realistically do the canyon and then get down to Sedona the same night. However, that leaves us 1 night to stay somewhere on the last leg back to Vegas. It seems pointless stopping 1 hour away at Williams, which doesn't have rave reviews, but the next decent place is so close to Vegas we might as well just go there.

Could anyone offer any advice for an extra night somewhere along our route that might be more than just a pitstop? Either before the canyon, or between that and Sedona. Somewhere with a bit of something to see, a beer and a decent burrito!! We're quite happy to do Sedona to Vegas on the last day in one go if we can't find a better place to overnight in the middle of the trip.

Hope all not too confusing. We will be very appreciative of advice, particularly as we are currently planning this near Nottingham, England, with only websites to advise so far.

    Thank you anyone who answers...

    Default A few side trips

Hi Samanddebb, welcome to the RoadTrip America Forum!

Could anyone offer any advice for an extra night somewhere along our route that might be more than just a pitstop? Either before the canyon, or between that and Sedona. Somewhere with a bit of something to see, a beer and a decent burrito!!
Here is a post with some very interesting suggestions by one of our experienced AZ contributors. Between Page and Grand Canyon, you could make field trips to Monument Valley, Antelope Canyon, Canyon De Chelly stay and arrange a tour at the Thunderbird Lodge in Chinle, Petrified Forest NP, Wigwam Motel in Holbrook, have a drink at Charley's in Flagstaff, have a floater at the Twister's Soda Fountain in Williams.

In Sedona, be sure to stop by Red Rock Canyon and Oak Creek. After Sedona, you could drive to Jerome an old mining town and have lunch at the Palace Haunted Hamburger or at the Red Rooster Café. Visit historic Prescott and its famous Whiskey Row.

In the South West you will find Mexican food everywhere and the food is probably more authentic that anything you've tasted before...Except if you've been to Mexico of course!:-) Here's a link to our Road Food page.

    Have a nice trip!

Thank you so much. You have been a great help. Just a few loose ends to tie up now and we're all sorted.

    Big thanx once more
