    Default Idaho/Utah

Does anyone know what the roads are like the end of December through southwestern Idaho, central utah and southeastern utah? I-84, I-15, and Hwy 6 and Hwy 191? My husband and I are thinking of driving to New Mexico to see his family.

We are from washington and will be going through Oregon, Idaho, and Utah the end of December. Is it safe? Is there ice on the roads at that time? I was trying to research prior years but unable to find anything.

Let me know and appreciate your help in advance. Thanks, Melody

    Melody, Welcome to the Forum!

You need to count on winter driving conditions. Yes, there will be ice and some snow on the ground, but the roads will be open and should present no problems. We do suggest that you read and equip your vehicle as suggested here.

The only section that would give me pause is your planned use of US-6. It is the local's choice for reaching I-70 and then onto US-191, but it can be a little dicey getting over the pass when the conditions turn wintery. Last year, friends driving from Texas, who are accomplished snow drivers, reported some pulse-altered moments on their way to meet us in Park City. If the roads are clear and dry, it is awesome road, but if looks stormy I would stay on I-15 to US-50 to I-70 to US-191.
