    Default Arizona road trip

Need advice on a road trip I am planning with hubby and son. I would like to fly into the grand canyon area and from there I am open to suggestions. Should we stick with Arizona or drive to Utah, Colorado or new mexico. We will have about a week to do this and don't want to be to stressed out. Also any ideas of good hotels in the Grand Canyon area. Thanks

  2. Default Park Lodges

Welcome to the RTA forum! At Grand Canyon, I recommend the National Park Lodges. If your trip will be in the high summer season, get reservations as early as possible.

As far as destination, you could spend a week in any one of these states and have plenty to see and do. It's hard to recommend one over the other as there are so many attractions in each state.

If I had to choose or be shot... it'd be Grand Canyon, Canyon de Chelly, Monument Valley, Canyonlands/Arches, Capital Reef, Bryce and Zion. This is a big circle through some of Arizona and Utah's most scenic areas. Your gateway could be Las Vegas -- it's most convenient for this itinerary. Bob

I would also recommend parking your car in Williams, AZ, and staying the night there, then taking the train up to the Grand Canyon, and staying one or two nights at one of the lodges there, and then taking the train back. It's a great way to explore the park, from what I have been told. I plan to do it myself some time.

    Default I agree with Bob

Totally agree with Bob, we have just returned from a fantastic trip and we visited many of the places suggested. It really depends how much driving you want to do during the seven days - it was quite a trek from Zion to Moab (Arches NP) but well worth it. We stayed at Tusayan just outside the entrance to the Grand Canyon (Grand Canyon Hotel) and it was fine (we were too late to book one of the lodges and we tried to book three months before we travelled) You will have fun wherever you visit!

    Default agree!

I concur! The places Bob mentioned would be my suggestion as well. Some of the FAVORITES of the whole USA, all in one vacation.
