Welcome to the Forum! I drive that route about fifty times each year. I have seen just about every road condition one can see on this route. Snowfall in January is certainly possible -- one of the most outrageous blizzards I have ever had the bad timing to be driving in happened near Mountain Pass (on I-15 near the Nevada border) one early morning a couple of years ago. That being said, rainfall/snowfall is relatively rare in the desert in January. if snow is falling, the places you will see it are from Primm, Nevada to Halloran Springs Road (east of Baker, California) and in the Cajon Pass near Victorville. What I suggest is to call 511 on any telephone in the Las Vegas area a couple hours before you leave for the most current road conditions.

Otherwise, a very nice and beautiful winter drive.
