  1. Default Albuquerque, Vegas,Canyons, Colorado, 6 days

You all have been terrific in advising me about an upcoming trip, and I have one last question, thanks to slight modification in plans.

I will be traveling soon (as in two weeks) in July, with two teenagers (17,19), leaving Albuquerque, returning to same. My son wants to see Las Vegas. I want to see Durango, etc., and do at least one amazing canyon thing. We've been to Moab/Arches before.

Can you think of a six-seven day trip, with scenic drives, bearable heat, that takes in both Durango and Col. scenery, AND Las Vegas? (And can underage kids enjoy Vegas too?)

    Thanks again!

The Las Vegas strip is primarily an adult playground and there is a curfew that affects un-accompanied youth under 18 yrs old, that being said, they can visit most of the public areas of the big casinos & hotels and enjoy the wonder of it all. You could easily go to Durango and then hit any of Bryce, Grand Staircase-Escalante, Zion, and/or Grand Canyon on the way to Vegas.

  4. Default Do you like to be on the move constantly?

Do you like to be on the move constantly? If not, then I would forget Las Vegas this time....it's just to far for all the things you want to see.

You won't see the beautiful mountain scenery if you just go as far as Durango. Drive Hwy 550 (the Million Dollar Highway) up to Ouray and back.

Monument Valley would not be very far out of your way...talk about beautiful scenery! It's just 25 miles north of Kayenta, AZ.

Can you talk the teens into trading a float trip on the Colorado River from Page, AZ instead of Las Vegas. It's a half day tour and my 17 year old nephew said it was the highlight of our 2 week trip in the area.

You are going to want to spend at least 2 nights at the Grand Canyon so you will have one full day to explore.

On the way home you can either do Canyon de Chelly or the Petrified Forest.
