Road trip on I 10

We are planning on a road trip along I 10 from west to east towards mid june. Destination is Houston. As it can get pretty hot in the desert, any advices? I do not want to be driving in the night just for the cooler temperatures as it can be risky if something breaks down.

Make sure your vehicle is in good condition -- have everything checked. Take a cell phone and keep it charged. Take drinking water (I ice down sport bottles) and emergency water (at least two or three gallons in the trunk). Make sure you've got a good spare (check the air in it too) and the equipment to change a flat tire. Make sure everyone with you has adequate clothing as well -- light long sleeved shirts, etc. Those are the basics.

In a newer air-conditioned vehicle, you shouldn't have any trouble on I-10 even if it is 110 degrees, but if you do, you'll be prepared to tough it out until help arrives. Most people that get into trouble do so because they get off the road and then get stranded, and are not adequately prepared for that eventuality. Bob
