Ideal route - San Fran to Las Vegas

I am planning a drive from SFO to LV in July and want to take in the most scenery on route.

I would appreciate some suggested itineries/routes for such a trip. I will be arriving on a Thursday afternoon in SFO and need to be in Vegas on the Saturday sometime.

There are probably a 100 posts regarding this particular road trip on this forum. One such route was taken by an RTA editor last year. US-50 past Lake Tahoe is also pretty cool and I really like CA-route 108 through those old gold towns and over Sonora Pass and down to US-395.

If you put "las vegas" into the search utility (on the green navigation bar) you will find about 20 pages of posts about possible routes.
