Default SF -> LA in August with RV: 2 or 3 days

I'm planning our familiy trip to California at the moment. If I look at the traveltimes at Rand McNally I'm unsure if we should do the 1 from SF to LA in 2 or 3 days (1 or 2 nights). We are traveling with 2 kids (6 and 9 years) some breaks should be planned as well. (and not to mention the jetlag we will probably still suffer from :-) : SF is our starting point)

Any suggestions for this route? Any must see things apart from the obvious things mentioned in all books?

    Welcome to the forum!

Click here for a similar thread about traveling the California coast. All of my recommendations apply to your trip (Madonna Inn, Nepenthe Restaurant, etc.) You'll definitely need more than 3 days to see all of it though! When I was in the 9th grade, I took a 9-day trip up the coast with my family.

    Good luck!
