On my way to/from Barrie to Texas, I included:

• Mammoth Cave National Park, KY
• Hot Springs National Park, Arkansas
• Oklahoma City - bombing memorial
• Carlsbad Caverns, NM
• Big Bend National Park (a must-see!)
• San Antonio - riverwalk / the alamo / mission tour
• Fort Worth Historic Stockyards (very interesting)
• a cow cutting show in Fort Worth
• Baton Rouge to New Orleans - historic homes & plantations
• Biloxi & Gulfport, Mississippi

I did sort of a "loop" across the top of Texas, then down through New Mexico to Presidio (sp?), across along the Rio Grande, to all of the above, & more.
