Trip to VA

Hi,
We have planned a 3 day trip (to and fro) to VA from NJ for the long weekend. Any pointers on places to see on the way, routes to take would be appreciated.

PS:- Since we wanted a 8/9 hour drive we chose VA. Any other places worth going from NJ?
