guidebooks???

hi, iam a swedish fellow how will be travelling throw the states for 11 weeks this spring. any advice about giudebooks, i have been travelling alot before and then used lp:s books but i dont find that one good enough for usa. any advice anyone?
is 11 weeks enough to do a big loop around the states??? will start and stop in LA.
