Default SF to MI to NY in 6 days -Best scenic Rt is?

Couple is traveling from San Francisco, Ca to Southern Michigan onto New York City, and only has 6 days to do it in.

Can anyone recommend any leg stretching scenic sights to see, and the best route to take. I'd greatly appreciate it!

    Default I-80 with some detours

As you know, that run is about 2900 miles and for the most part I-80 is your best bet. You can effectively cover that distance in four driving days, leaving sufficient time to explore a bit and stretch your legs.

One possible detour would be to exit south on US-40 just past Salt Lake City and proceed east towards the Dinosaur Nat. Monument. Keep going east on US-40 past Craig and drive thru the incomparable Rocky Mtn National Park on US-34/US-36 to Estes Park, CO and then pick up I-76 follow the Platte River back up to I-80 and bomb eastward for a while. Plenty to see in Chicago -- stop in Southern Michigan and then grab some atomic wings in Sharon, PA and head for New York City.

Default Thanks! Should Yellow Stone be a stop?

    Love your more "direct" suggestion!

Do you think veering up to Yellow Stone Nat. Park is worth it , or would that eat too much time? That's the only thing that would make me stray from your "direct" route. What do you think?

    -Loving any sense of direction,
    Danielle

Default If you have time -- pretty awesome!

Adding Yellowstone (& Teton National Park) to the mix will add (at the mimimum) two days. Yellowstone in the summer is congested, average speed within the park will rarely exceed 20 mph. It is an awesome park -- and the new natural history musuem in Cody, Wyoming is a must-see --on par with any musuem in the world for natural history.
