Default First Road Trip Need HELP

Okay, I just finshed my freshman year in college so that makes me 18 years old. I want to go on a road trip with my boyfriend, also 18. However, we're not sure where and what we should plan for this. I'm the planner type, I need to know what's going to happen before it happens, or atleast have an idea what we're going to do. We're starting from NYC and heading we're not sure. We are planning to go in the middle of May. We want to go somewhere near by not too far but far enough from the city and secluded enough for ourselves.
    Possible places:
    NYC to Lake George, NY
NYC to Poconoes [but where's there to do now]

Is there an age limit to book a hotel room? I hope not. Any suggestions. We already have a car. HELP.

    Thank you so much.

    Default roadtrip

there are a million places within 6 hours drive from nyc. from north to maine to south and virginia beach. west to the amish country. i know you are a planner but i would just pick a direction, hop in the car and drive. you said you wanted seclusion right? there are a ton of quaint ocean side towns with cheap hotels, inns, and B&B's. I just got back from vermont, it is beautiful there too. i would have to double check but i think the inn was called the edgewater near lake george.it was $50 night. it is owned by the nicest and funniest old couple. far enough away to probably be available in mid may but close enough you could drive to L.G. during the day. being spontaneous is half the fun. if you really need plans pick a direction, decide about how many hours you can drive in a day, and estimate about the area you will be. then you can lookup several options for lodging. have fun!

Technically you can book a room at 18 but expect to get turned away; I was a very conservative looking 18 year old a mere 6 years ago and the few times I tried to book a room, alone, with friends, or with a boyfriend, I was turned away, despite giant VACANCY signs. A possible way around this is to book over the phone with a credit card.
What I would suggest is camping...it is cheaper, and you will have the option of being secluded or meeting many people your age (any age, really) who just love to travel. Your options are limitless and it is so inexpensive. My boyfriend and I bought a tent, two warm sleeping bags we zip together, and a small Coleman grill not so long ago and love it. There are national parks, state parks, and private campgrounds (I hear KOAs are good, check out their website www.koa.com) to stay at. You can stay somewhere secluded, or at a campground near someplace cool. I would imagine there is tons of camping at Lake George, and I am from the Poconos so I can assure you there is lots of camping there (but very little to do, honestly). You might enjoy camping near the NJ shore, which is where I live. Wildwood is a great beach, huge with a giant boardwalk. MTV is perpetually at Seaside, and if you like old-fashioned things I would recommended Cape May, the very southern tip of NJ, which is full of Victorian homes, many open for touring.
