Short Road trip

I'm graduating high school this year, and my friend and I have decided to go on a short road trip instead of to the beach. I live in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia, and we only have a week to travel. Does anyone know of any cool destinations in Virginia, Maryland, Kentucky, West Virginia, North Carolina or Tennesee? I'd really appreciate any replies.

You live in the Shenandoah Valley...can I assume that you've driven the Blue Ridge Parkway down to the Great Smoky Mountains? Pretty amazing stuff. From there, why don't you head northwest a bit and check out Nashville, TN.

If you are looking for city fun, I would maybe go to Charlotte and/or Atlanta. Every time I have been to both places, I've had a great time. I am not sure what your money situation is, but I have always found a lot to do and see in both cities that was reasonable.
I find if I pick up one of the free papers anywhere in the city it helps to let me know what's going on and what there is to do that week.
