I'm planning a big summer road trip. I'm saving up as much money as possible, and I have zero debt. Besides camping, food, hostels and gas, what other expenses should I worry about? What about health/car insurance? I've got AAA, a cell phone, friends to split gas. Should I carry all my cash with me? Use an ATM? I'm not worried about where to go or what to do, I don't want to cut a trip short for silly reasons!

    Default money

Other costs might include admissions to places/events, oil change, unexpected vehicle breakdown. Sounds like you've covered everything well.

I use strictly cash but I'm sure others will reply not to do so. Has worked fine for me. I always have it in my waist pouch right in front of me zippered into the innermost pocket, basically never taking it off. I carry one credit card only for use in case of emergencies (such as a car breakdown).

    Happy trails...
