    Default What is a "WDS"?

RoadTrip America is hosting a Wireless Dashboarding Summit (WDS) in mid-2001. This gathering of dashboarding pioneers will be located in a semi-remote area of Southwestern USA. This will be a three day event and we will be field-testing as many different wireless devices as we can get our hands on.

We are looking for suggestions of places, personnel, products, etc. Join us! It will be a memorable weekend.

Default Wireless Dashboarding Summit - 2001

    Hey Mark, count me *in*!

I can bring my Orbcomm GSC100 (global e-mail),
and my Inmarsat-3 global telephone. Who needs
Iridium, eh? Oh - well if they can get more than
1200 baud out of the constellation and figure
out how to get folks to pay for it, I guess I will.

So, any ideas on a site? Black Rock Desert?
Somewhere in central Nevada along the UFO highway?
Ely? Oh ya, the least visited National Park -
Great basin? Naw, too far, I guess.

    Could go somewhere up 395 - Bishop, Mammoth, Mono . . .

Or how about the Mojave? Zzyzx? Death Valley?
An out-of-the way place seldom visited by the
modern tourist? I got ideas, name the region!

Keep me posted, fellow road wirer! - Mark

    Default Trona Pinnacles?

    Mark,

    >So, any ideas on a site? Black Rock Desert? Somewhere in central Nevada
along the UFO highway? Ely? Oh ya, the least visited National Park -
Great basin? Naw, too far, I guess.

One of the concerns is that we have to choose a spot with demonstrable digital service -- got to have a pipeline or the testing sessions will be awfully short. My first choice now is the Trona Pinnacles near Ridgecrest. Ever been there? Imagine Mars... It is on BLM land, so permits might be easier.

    >Could go somewhere up 395 - Bishop, Mammoth, Mono . . .

Oooh. Mono Hot Springs. I wonder if there is any coverage there. We gotta have good access & services for the press contingent.

    >Or how about the Mojave? Zzyzx?

Zzyzx is one of the ideas. I believe you have a contact there?

    > Death Valley? An out-of-the way place

3 hours from a major airport, west coast, good access to wireless networks.

    Good to have you aboard!
