Default DC Metrorail closures for summer 2019

I’m posting this to help tourists coming to DC who may not hear local news. If there’s a better location for this, please move or delete if not fitting. Many times tourists are recommended to find lodging outside DC, such as in Virginia along the metrorail and use it to go into DC. This is excellent advice, HOWEVER watch where it is this summer as all metrorail stations south of Washington Reagan National airport will be closed May 25 - Sept 2. I think most people find lodging in the Pentagon City or Crystal City areas which is fine as it’s north of the airport but it could be a shock if staying further south and planning to drive to one of these other stations. Here’s a link with info, https://info.arlingtontransportation...-shutdown-2019 There will be work around with shuttle buses, but if you are here visiting the District and want to sight see, I doubt if waiting on a bus shuttle would be much fun. DC is wonderful to visit and Metro is a great way to get around, just be aware of where to get on it, then enjoy!

That would definitely have hampered us last year, if they'd done that then. Many folks like to stay in Alexandria, too, because the rates are lower. I'm assuming that this will affect the Blue Line as well as the Yellow Line, then.

Yes, it’s both lines, everything south of the Pentagon. I actually thought of you because I remember reading your travel log and remembered you stayed on the south side. I knew they’ve been doing massive repairs. It needs it because of mismanagement on deferred maintenance but I doubt if many tourists have a clue.

Our alternative last year was going to be a stay out on the Silver Line, Vienna or Reston I think. Since it doesn't appear that the Silver Line is affected, that might be an alternative, or staying out in Maryland out towards Greenbelt. Or even just around Arlington, though we found that was a little too expensive for us (which is why we chose Alexandria, it was less expensive).
