  1. Default I need serious help

I am moving across country with my boyfriend and our 95lbs Doberman. We are driving in a 2008 Dodge Caliber from Long Island, New York to San Diego, California. The first thing is, we have no idea which way to drive aside from west. What we need to keep in mind is that we are leaving November 30th, so weather is a factor, but what routes are best. We also want to keep costs down as much as possible, so if anyone can give us tips it would be truly appreciated.

Default Shorter is usually the best

This time of year, I-70 or I-80 are your two best routes, unless you have money and time to take a longer trip?

Unless there are local weather and road conditions that would dictate a different route, the fastest way is normally I-80/I-76/I-70/I-15. You have to get over the mountains somewhere, and no cross-country routes are completely immune from adverse conditions. It's only about an hour longer going via I-80/I-76/I-71/I-70/I-44/I-40/I-17/AZ Loop 101/I-10/AZ-85/I-8. Be flexible, keep abreast of the weather and road conditions online, and allow yourselves at least 6 days for the trip.

Default Take the route often traveled

The two routes already mentioned are your best bet, so all you have to do now is keep your eyes on the weather while you're on the road. You'll be able to adjust accordingly while you're out there as long as you pay attention to the forecast. If you get into a real pickle, you can always post back here and we'll help you out with directions and advice.
