  1. Default Boston to Boulder!

Hi! I am driving from Boston to Boulder, and am looking for ideas of must-sees along the way. We are staying with friends along the way, so we already know our journey, we just don't know what to see along the way (except in South Dakota, which I have been to before). The trip will go as follows-

Day1 - Boston, MA to State College, PA (via NYC)
Day 2- State College, PA to Peninsula, OH
Day 3- Peninsula, OH to Chicago, IL
Day 4- Chicago, IL to Minneapolis, MN
Day 5- Minneapolis, MN to Brookings, SD
Day 6- Brookings, SD to Belle Fourche, SD
Day 7- Belle Fourche, SD to Boulder, CO

If you have any ideas for sightseeing or activities, let me know! We are two 24-year-old females up for adventures!

    Default Worth Seeing

Welcome aboard the RoadTrip America Forums!

Around here, I think you'll find that there is no limited list of "must see" places, just an endless list of places worth seeing when you get the chance and if you have the interest. With that in mind:

    1) Boston to State College: You won't have a lot of spare time on this leg, but it might be worth your while to drive down from Port Jervis, NY on I-84 to East Stroudsburg, PA on I-80 along US-209 through the Delaware Water Gap

    2) State College to Peninsula: Much more time on this day, but your best attraction is at the end. Take your friends for an afternoon/evening in Cuyahoga Valley National Park

    3) Peninsula to Chicago: With a few hours you might be able to take a ferry ride out to Put-in-Bay or Kelleys Island in Lake Erie, or at least stop at Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore before hitting Chicago

    4) Chicago to Minneapolis: If you're into water slides and such - Wisconsin Dells. If you'd like to see a unique museum - Circus World in Baraboo

    5) Minneapolis to Brookings: I'm not that familiar with this stretch, but I think much of it will be through the kind of farmland populated by Norwegian bachelor farmers that Garrison Keillor talks about. Take the time to wander (on foot) through some of the small towns.

    6) Brookings to Belle Fourche: Another long day, but make time for the Corn Palace in Mitchell, Wall Drug, and a drive through the Badlands

    7) Belle Fourche to Boulder: Devils Tower and a quick stop at the Stanley Hotel in Estes Park

    Remember, those are just suggestions.

    Default revisiting

Ii've done all of those things in the last two legs of the journey
Just an observation, but roadtrip can be much more than checking things off a list. Sometimes revisiting places you've already been, especially when they are already on your way, can really provide a new perspective to a place and let you see things you may have missed in previous trips.

Having said that, there are many more things in the Black Hills, like Jewel and Wind Caves, and Custer State Park, just to name a few, that you could also explore on your last days.

  5. Default of course

Oh, of course. I am definitely going to revisit places... especially because my friend who is coming with me has never been to South Dakota before. Thanks for the additional suggestions!!
