  1. Default Richmond to somewhere?

I'm planning a roadtrip. I have a weekend. I'd be more into hiking (albeit not in the rain or severe cold...) and sight seeing (just getting away from the richmond area)...though I don't think staying in a tent is a good idea.

I'm just not sure where to go to. Any great ideas?

    Default Short RoadTrips from Richmond

Welcome aboard the RoadTrip America Forums!

So, it sounds like you'd like somewhere that you can drive to in considerably less than a day, preferably less than half a day and that along scenic roads, that has at least a moderate chance of being warm and offering some good hiking. OK there are a few places that you can get to in 4 hours or so from Richmond that would be worth an evening/night/morning before heading back. If the weather is cooperating on your trip's weekend you can head northwest to Shenandoah National Park. If you want communing with nature at a lower altitude, you can go to Norfolk and then cross to the Delmarva Peninsula which is chock full of Wildlife Refuges in Virginia, Maryland and Delaware. Or, if you want beaches, history and night life, head for Manteo, NC at the northern end of the Outer Banks. So there's three great ideas for places within easy reach of Richmond.
