Just back from a jaunt across N. Nevada. Highly recommended! As reported I-80 is relatively quick, but sights are easily missed, but we enjoyed Elko (and the Donner Pass area at the Nevada/CA border is always impressive). Highway 50; after driving between OK City adn El Paso on several occasions I'm not sure I buy off on it as the "lonelist road in America," but I did find it to be more interesting and scenic than W. Texas.

Ely, NV was quite nice as was Eureka. Didn't see much of note in Austin, and found Fernley and Fallon to be almost bedroom communities of Reno.
