Yellowstone to Glacier NP, best route?

Will be taking the family on a crosscountry trip (Chicago-Vancouver) this september and I'm knee deep in planning. One route I'm unsure of is the best route to Glacier NP from Yellowstone.

I'm thinking US89 the whole way on the east side of Glacier. Any better suggestions or alternates?

That is pretty much the route I followed last summer. I assume you will do the Going-to-the-Sun-Highway?

Great Falls makes for nice place to stop -- that falls/generating plan is interesting and there are some wonderful places to eat. While you are there -- go to the Giant Springs State Park -- at look at the spring. This is the largerst fresh water spring in the nation -- ~8 million gallons per hour! Just up the Missouri River is this amazing antler gate.

Thanks for the welcome! What a great forum I've found! And thanks for moving the thread, I wasn't sure as mid-sept technically is still summer, however where I'm going it will be fall.

Yes..."Going-to-the-Sun-Highway" is on the itinarary. Probably after an overnight stay somewhere near the east entrance.

What I look for on a good route is a high scenery/traveltime ratio.

I'm having as much fun planning this as I think I will on the trip.
