Two different nations, one airline ticket? Sorry, I doubt anyone could even write a contract to cover that! Much less a real ticket.

Some years ago, I recall that SouthWest airlines had a pass like that -- but only on their airline and only where they flew and you still needed to give them like 24 hours notice before you took the flight. No one has it today, that I can recall...

There is the "American Rail Pass" offered by Amtrak for unlimited stops to any of the more than 900 destinations on the Amtrak and VIA route systems in the United States and Canada. This pass is valid for a 30-day period. Not cheap, and limited to where Amrak and VIA go.

Or there is the unlimited miles rental car option -- rent the car for a month from some rental agencies, and its unlimited miles You still have to turn it in (usually a specified destination by a specified time), and pay to put gas in it, but no limit on miles..

well a train or the greyhound would do, i'm just not sure on where i can get the informtaion for the costs. i can't rent a car because i am only 17 well will be 18 wen i go on the trip and there isn't a rental company that will rent me a car.

Also i have calculated that i will have around $3600 for a 4 week holiday in america. if i wish to see the east cost and maybe a few places in canada.. staying in motels or hostels and doin limited shopping do u think it would be enough?

    Default Amtrak Offers

Here's the info from Amtrak's website about their various offers for unlimited ride passes.

It looks like the unlimited US/Canada pass for a month will cost you about between $700-1000, depending upon when you are traveling.

    Default Linkage...

    Bbm,

Here are some links to some of the major transportation companies. You are, of course, correct in the fact that it is virtually impossible for an 18 year old to rent a car, except for in New York state (if I recall reading the fine print with enterprise rental car), but if you can find one there will be sizable fees attatched.

Anyway, here are the links you seek. Pricing will either be displayed point-to-point or as a pass.

    www.amtrak.com
    www.greyhound.com

there are also many smaller regional lines, many of which are associated with the trailways transportation system.

As far as the amount of money you'll need. Being that it is international travel, I'm not sure how much of your budget will go simply to getting to and from the USA. Which country will you be visiting from?

I'm inclined to say that the amount you mentioned, being that you're an international visitor, is probably cutting it very close. US$3k seems like a lot of cash, but it it tends to disappear very quickly.

Being that you're 17 going on 18, you might check with your local school to see if there are any international student ambassador programs or exchanges that you can do that might be less expensive and more guided then just wondering around the US.
