Dallas to San Jose

Hi all,
I am planning on driving from dallas to san jose starting june 22nd.
I wanted to get suggestions on the best route to get there.
Currently i am planning on taking 287 to ammarillo and then catching I-40 all the way to bakersfield and then getting on I-5 to san jose.
I am planning on finishing the trip in 3 days would like to reach san jose early evening on the 24th.
Any suggestions? Has any one taken this route before?Should i watch out for anything??

Welcome to the Great American RoadTrip Forum! Three days is a reasonable time period to cover this 1700 mile trip. With stops for fuel, food and rest, you will find that you will average about 57 mph over a travel day and you should plan to travel at least 8-9 hours each day.

The route you specified is the fastest way. I have driven it many, many times over the years. For most of the route in Texas, NM and part of California, you will be running along side hsitoric Route 66 and you might wish to take some detours. Here is one of the best sites on the Web for info about travels along US-66.
