New York to Los Angeles

Hi, my husband and I am planning to fly in to New York around mid Sept. Then, take a bus ride to Cleveland to meet a friend. We'll then rent a car and drive to Los Angeles. We have about 16 days for the whole trip. There's only 3 specific locations that we want to drop by: Kalamazoo, Chicago and Grand Canyon. Any suggestions on which other attractions that we must not missed? Our budget is about USD160 a day(for everything). Please advise on any important related matters too. Thanks!

Does this include the air fare, bus fare, car rental, etc. I am not sure it is possible to do a 16 day trip and not spend more than an average of $160 per day. Here are some tips for saving money on a roadtrip. And some tips about eating well but inexpensively.
