  1. Default DC to Colorado and back

My fiance and I are headed back to Colorado (where we're both from) to get married 6 short weeks from now. We have both made the trip many times, usually with 2 long days on the road and a standard overnight stop in St. Louis to sleep.
However, this time we are planning on taking our time getting to Colorado and back, so are looking for suggestions of places to see that are somewhat along the way. Maybe spend 4 or 5 days each way, depending on what catches our eye. Any suggestions??

    Thanks for the suggestions.
We are mostly outdoorsy types and enjoy nature, camping, hiking and the sort. However, we are pretty easy going and enjoy checking out things that we normally would miss on a trip such as this. So historic spots or local favorites are definitely things we would like to see. We will also have our dog with us, so dog-friendly venues would be a plus.

In another thread, we shared a few dog travel ideas. Be sure to read Judy's tips and then also scroll down to the bottom of that thread for the dog travel ideas.

Here's one that you won't find in guidebooks.... Mountain View, Arkansas is home to the Ozark Folk Center State Park (which is in guide books) and is pretty cool. But for a real treat, go down to the park in the city centre about 8:00 pm and plan to be there several hours. Local jazz musicians have an "open session" for as long as anyone wants to play -- riffs go on all night and all levels of skill are encouraged. It is a very special place to be in the summer months.
