DC to west coast and back. 3 weeks?

Hey everyone, i am new here

Me and a friend just dicided to take a road trip from the east coast to the west coast. I plan to start going me research very soon, since i want to be prepared. I have a million questions that i am sure have been answered, so i'll be searching these forums a lot.

But, i would like to ask one right of the bat

Is 3 weeks a good amount of time for us? We would like to be lazy in California for a few days, and don't want to spend all the time driving. I want to do the trip justice. I really have no idea what i want to see on the way either.

Three weeks may or maynot be enough time. I'm vague because drive time and vacation time depend on what you want to see. Driving straight through, you could get coast to coast in 3-4 days. If you plan on making a few stops, a week each direction is possible. It all depends on what you want to do and what you see. This would leave you with about a week to lounge around California.

If possible, making it 4 weeks would be even better. This way you can either take more time driving or more time enjoying your vacation.
