Although its glory days are past, the legendary I-80 pit stop is still in operation, and still worth stopping at, especially if you have small children. Now part of a shopping/ dining complex, The Nut Tree still offers miniature train rides to the kiddies on the route that used to pick up passengers from the Nut Tree Airport. And it still has rocking horses, though no longer the oversize ones. Photos on display pay tribute to The Nut Tree's long, colorful history, which includes visits by a great many celebrities.

      If you go:
There are special events mounted here at various times, including a jazz festival in September. At times, you might find the gate open to the former heart of the attraction, the house, garden and store/ restaurant. It's deserted now, but a stroll around the grounds is a good dose of nostalgia for anyone who remembers the way it used to be.
