• Polar Caves Park - Rumney, New Hampshire

Exploring glacial caves formed of granite during the Ice Age is the main attraction at Polar Caves Park. Wriggle through Lemon Squeeze if you are tiny enough and agile! Crawl through Fat Man's Misery or walk the Devil's Turnpike! Less agile folks can always choose the bypasses for any cave and meet their party at the other end and still see the tremendous views at the top. The adventuresome can also climb the glacial wall or ascend the Iron Way and then rappel back down. Youngsters will enjoy feeding the ducks and fallow deer in the Animal Park. Explore the nature trails and try your hand at sluicing for gems. There's plenty to keep the whole family busy!

      If you go:
Open 7 days a week; hours vary seasonally. Park is usually open first weekend in May to mid-October but is weather dependent. Admission is $18.50 for the day with discounts for seniors, active or retired military and children. Season passes can also be purchased. Climbing wall, the Iron Way and Baker River Mining Sluice are extra. Wear sturdy shoes. The route through the caves has many steps and ascends hundreds of feet above the parking lot. The caves also require stooping and negotiating low overhangs and narrow openings. Limited accessibility for wheelchairs and strollers. Not advised to carry infants or young children into the caves. Pets are not allowed. Snacks and gift shop on premise.
