In September 1952, several witnesses in Braxton County allegedly spotted a strange creature they believed to be an interplanetary visitor after following the trajectory of a fireball in the sky. Today, Braxton County capitalizes on this modern legend, known as the Flatwoods Monster, in a rather clever way: five oversize chairs in the shape of the creature are positioned at strategic points throughout the region. Visitors to the area, whether from this planet or another, are encouraged to seek out these chairs and be photographed with them. And while they're at it, of course, to investigate the businesses and other features the Braxton region has to offer.

      If you go:
Address is that of the Braxton County Convention and Visitors Bureau, which features a Mini Monster Museum. While you're in the area, you might want to get in some kayaking or canoeing.
