The small town of Embarrass is famous for two things. Firstly, its bitterly cold temperatures. It's not unusual for the thermometer to drop to below -45F in winter, and in 2005 residents recorded an unofficial -64F! And secondly, there are its historic buildings and homesteads, reflecting the predominance of Finnish immigrants who founded the town in 1905 and still make up a significant proportion of the population. If you're visiting during the summer on Thursday, Friday or Saturday, book onto the 1:00 pm Sisu Heritage Homestead Tour.
