What opened as a one-room schoolhouse in 1914 is now home to a sizable museum and serves as home to the Mojave Desert Heritage & Cultural Center. The town of Goffs dates to the 1860s but the schoolhouse, which was extensively renovated in 1998, is the oldest building in town today. Their research library has possibly the world's largest collection of information on the Mojave Desert and the cultural center sits on 113 acres of land donated to the organization. The size and scope of the museum is quite impressive.

      If you go:
Goffs Schoolhouse is open seasonally from October 1 to June 30, Saturday, Sunday & Monday 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Admission is free, but donations are welcome. The turnoff from US Highway 93 leading to Goffs is part of the original Route 66 and is itself a historic site.
