At 282 feet below sea level, this is famously the lowest point in North America, and takes its name from a spring of undrinkable water close to the parking area. A walk out onto the pure white salt flats is an experience not to be forgotten you get a real sense of scale just a few hundred yards out, particularly looking north along the valley.

Remember to take water with you; this is one of the hottest places on earth with daytime highs in summer often in excess of 120 degrees F.
