Easy campin....?

Hello everyone. Im planing a little trip in mid august. wanting to go from Cincinnati to New York city, then heading to Philly, then DC, then to Charleston (where i live) MY girlfriend and i love camping and would like to camp between cities. I am having a little issue finding useful information on campgrounds. If anyone has camped in these areas....just outside the cities, do you have any recommendations. we dont want anything big and fancy. just wanna sleep there at night and be on our way in the morning. Shower houses would be nice to have. anything? Thank you for your help!!

Check the websites for the state park systems. That may be your best bet. Are you talking tent camping or do you have an RV?

In addition to state parks possible to see also Association of Campground of each state, to include private campings (more expensive and sometimes don't accept tents)

Is it possible to find campgrounds without reservations? We don't know when we will be at each location and would like to have some freedom of when we move on.

Yes it's possible. It's just a matter of choice between security and a bit of freedom. Depending on when you travel and the places you wish to see/camp at will be key to availability. For instance, popular parks like Yellowstone, Yosemite and Grand canyon will be packed in the summer months but if you arrive early morning you can sometimes secure a "walk in" site [non reserveable in advance] for that night, it's whether you wish to gamble or not.
If I need to keep to an outline time scale I sometimes book "key" places in advance and "wing it" in between.
