  1. Default Travelling from UK

    Hi,

I'm from England and my friend and i are planning on driving around the US for six months later this year. I've been looking into how to go about buying a car and was hoping i could get some advice. All the information we've got so far seems to suggest that we'd need a US address to register the car and also for insurance purposes. Is this true, and is it easier to get insurance and registration in certain states? Ideally we are wanting to fly into New York and buy a car around there and then drive south, does anybody know of anyone from the UK who has done a similar trip and how to deal with all the insurance and registration difficulties? Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks

    Sam

Welcome to the Great American RoadTrip Forum -- such a query comes up every so often here.

Here is a thread with some ideas for you.

Here is some information about insurance as provided to other UK visitors.

  3. Default New York data?

Interestingly enough, I ran across this web site, at the University of Syracuse in New York State, about how foreign students can buy and register a car in the US or drive in the US.

    Web Site

As with any web site, accept this information a bit skeptically, but it might be a good start as an example.

And here's one from the University of Binghamton (also in New York State)
