Welcome to the Great American Roadtrip Forum.
It is impossible for anyone to give advice on a roadtrip, when all we have is a single line post telling us the names of two large Statres.
You will need to provide a lot more information. Since a roadtrip is designed to individual travellers, please tell us the following.
When will this trip take place? - summer is three or four months.
How long do you have for this trip?
How many adults/children will be taking this trip?
What are the interests of those participants?
Where in each State does it start/finish? There is a great difference in the suggestions we can make if it is Corpus Christie to Chicago or Dallas to Springield IL.
Any other information you can supply will be helpful for members to give relevant advice for YOUR trip.

Welcome to the RTA Forum!
As Lifey indicated, there is never a one-sized fits all "best" list of stops on a roadtrip, and you really haven't even given us much of a clue about where you're going. Just to put things in perspective, a trip from Texarkana to Carbondale could be done in as little as 8 or 9 hours on the road, where a trip from El Paso or South Padre Island to Chicago would need at least 3 full days on the road, and use completely different sets of highways.
I wanna go from Houston Tx to St. Louis Il in September.
It's gonnabe 2 adults and we're interested in shopping, sightseeing and vegan restaurants ideas would also b appreciated.
We got time so we were thinking to do the trip in 3 days.
Thank you.
This trip could be done directly in a day and a half, but being that shopping and vegan restaurants are among your priorities, it sounds like large cities are really what you are looking for, and other than little rock, there really aren't any major cities along the direct route.
Memphis would probably make the most sense as a detour location, which doesn't add too much in the way of distance and could easily fill up a full day if you'd like. You could do directly there, or since you have 3 days, you could look at heading over towards New Orleans and head up the Mississippi River from there.
