Macon GA to Oakland CA

Hey!

I will be making a trip beginning it this Friday morning, leaving out of Macon, GA. and ending in Oakland, CA. I won't be on a specific time crunch, but I do want to make the trip in 5 days. Can you offer any advice on places to visit, places to avoid, places to eat, etc.? Thanks!

Hi William, and Welcome to the Great American Roadtrip Forum.

Have you picked up some good maps of the route you plan to cover. If you have time to stop and explore, you will see most if not all the attractions along your chosen route. Go to AAA and pick up some of their maps (free to members) or go buy yourself a Rand McNally road atlas.

These maps will give you much more detail than a small screen can ever show you. A bit of research on the web will give you the details of each attraction, and whether it is appealing to you.

Other ways of finding attractions are, check out the attractions on this site, the national parks website and various States parks and forests. I often find that as I am going through all those, that one link leads to another and another and you end up with a long list or a thick file of information and directions to sites and attractions along your route.

Good maps are invaluable during the planning, and essential when on the road. Don't be tempted to rely solely on your electronics. Many have done so at their peril - some fatal.
