  1. Default Westcoast in December

We are a family from Denmark who are going to U.S in December .🇺🇸🇺🇸😄😄
We arrive in San Francisco the 13th and will spend two nights here . Then we are going to drive down the coast on highway 101 to Los Angeles ,- and then Las Vegas😍😍
Can you please help us with some questions..??
How is the weather in San Francisco, Los Angeles and Las Vegas typically this time a year? Will there be snow?,- and will highway 101 be fine to drive??
Can you recommend things to see on highway 1,- and where to stop for the night.
We are planning on two stops down to L.A..... We have been thinking Monterey and maybe pismo beach..?
Thank you so much in advance😄

    Default Some Answers and Suggestions

Velkommen! Welcome aboard the RoadTrip America Forums!

That general RoadTrip comes up quite often, so the first thing I'd suggest is that you read through some of the previous discussions of similar trips. Typically, the California coast has what is called a Mediterranean climate and even in winter it never gets all that cold, and the desert southwest is actually quite pleasant for much of the winter although there is the chance of occasional light overnight snow. I very much enjoyed my visit to the Monterey area and would strongly endorse your plan to spend at least one night there. But I'd also strongly recommend that you take CA-1 down the coast rather than US-101 to Los Angeles. The other stop on the way to L.A. should be in the Cambria area; it's pretty close to halfway and has a few choices for lodging.

Be sure to make your way along 101 all the way to Solvang.

    Hi
If you start early in the morning, you'll be done by evening. I did it in two days, towing a camper. The road narrows down to just one lane at two points due to construction, so expect to be in a very, very long line of cars at least those two stops.
