  1. Default 2 weeks around the U.S.

Are we crazy? We are going from Los Angeles to Tetons to Niagra Falls to Smoky Mtn National Park to Rockies and back home. The two weeks includes three full weekends.

    Default Expectations.

Hello and welcome to the RTA forums !

Crazy is a different thing for different people so it depends on what you are looking to get from this trip. If it is a relaxed trip you are after in which you can spend time exploring the places you want to visit and not most of the time in the car, then it's a little crazy. If you are looking for some sort of a driving challenge with a little time to take photos along the way you will be OK. To put it another way, you are likely to spend 10 hours a day in the car, with only only basic stops, for 10 days of your your 2 week trip. That would leave you a day at each place you have listed if you don't plan on any other sites. To put that in perspective, you could spend 4 days in the Tetons and Yellowstone and only scratch the surface, so it really comes down to your expectations an d the same goes for the Colorado Rockies.

    Default defining crazy

    Welcome to the RTA Forum!

If you are only looking at if your trip idea can be done, then no, it's not crazy. You should be able to cover all the miles needed to do this trip, with the two weeks you have available.

On the other hand, if you are hoping to actually see some of these places you've mentioned - beyond just looking out the car window - then yes, you might be a bit crazy.

The reality is that to get to all these places in a bit over 2 weeks, you're going to have to be in the car with the wheels moving nearly all day, every day. At most, you might be able to squeeze out a full day at one or two places, but in general, you'll will only have a time to spend a couple hours or less at the places you've listed... some that really require a few days each just to scratch the surface.

If you're looking for a very fast paced trip, or just to do this trip to say you've done it, then you're not crazy for doing it. However, I will say, it's a pretty exhausting way to travel, and I think you'd be pretty burned out well before you made it back home. For most people, it would be more rewarding to cut back the miles and actually take time to see the things you're driving by, but you'll have to decide for yourself what you are looking for out of this trip.
